Bikecropolis

NYC USA

Democracy in the Facebook age is instantaneous, spontaneous and inclusive- how can we bring that to the city? Inspired by the individual experience of movement through the city as well as the collective empowerment of impromptu gatherings, Bikecropolis is an urban campaign (revolution) that harnesses everyday mobility and accessibility in the city as crucial ingredients for the creation of a new democratic forum.

Designed as a kit-of-parts, Bikecropolis builds upon the everyday pleasures of moving the city and momentarily focuses the disparate voices into spaces of speech and performance.

We want to use the bicycle to re-establishes a common ground to encourage public debates and other participatory forms of civic conversations.

This project makes visible the invisible, the mundane, the banal, and demonstrate that the everyday has a voice and their coming together is spontaneously, exciting and accessible.
